Rick Scott reveals why he challenged Mitch McConnell

Sen. Rick Scott revealed Thursday that he aimed to be the ‘least popular person in Washington’ when he took on Minority Leader Mitch McConnell last year to lead the Senate . 

The Republican delivered a speech Thursday afternoon at the Conservative Political Action Conference, where he addressed his losing Senate leadership bid and alluded to his recent tussle with the Biden administration over Social Security and Medicare. 

‘Everybody in Washington said I was nuts.

I might be. But we cannot put up with this BS anymore,’ he said of challenging McConnell.

He hammered the ‘old, establishment leaders from our own Republican Party’ for lending votes to the to get legislation passed including the bipartisan infrastructure bill. 

‘I’m seeking to become the least popular person in Washington and I’m happy to report I’m making a lot of progress,’ Scott told the audience at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. ‘I’ve got the president lying about me.

Both Democrat and Republican Senate leaders lying about me. Pelosi she says terrible things about me. You’ve got the president’s incoherent press secretary attacking me, so my plan is working.’
